Sarah and Andrew had a great time in the Peak District and sent us these photos when they got home

Tim and Sharon went to Derbyshire for the Eroika Vintage Bike Festival, the second year they have hired Tilly for the event, and their budgies went too! They said

"Hi Kate, we were just saying that the best part of the weekend was just reading inside Tilly and listening to the radio relaxing and watching the rain from the comfort of the campervan. It was our lifeline and it certainly delivered a much less stressed couple than when we picked her up. So we can only thankyou enormously for everything you and David do, we are so impressed by how easy it is to take the budgies away!"

Heather, Richard, Emily and Rosie couldn't stop smiling as they set off for Norfolk in May 2016

"Kate, I hope this photos are of use. Still smiling from the weekend. Andy" June 2016

"Hi Kate, Many thanks again to you and David for the fantastic time we had in Hatty and I'm so pleased you liked the mirrors! As promised, I've attached a few photos of our adventure - most of them are of Daisy off course! Will come back to you soon as I'm very tempted to have a go in Peggy! Best wishes, John" June 2016

"Hi Kate, thank you so much for lending us Peggy last week we all had a great time travelling to Wales and back and campervaning in Pembroke. Here are a couple of pictures of our trip…. We all look forward to seeing you again for another trip at some point.

Best Regards
Carl Hilton" June 2016

"Hi both, Would like to thank you again for our smashing time in Hatty. Fantastic holiday, lots of fun had by all, made easy by Glamcar.
Claire and Dave. X" May 2016

Lorraine hired Tilly but she needed a new exhaust fitting so Libby came to the rescue! "My mother and I hired out Tilly, however she was unwell on the day so Libby was sent as a replacement, we were kept up to date with all the changes and well informed of arrival times etc. Libby was great to drive after I got used to the laid back driving style. We had loads of laughs in the van, my mother always wanted to have one herself and we weren't disappointed. There were a few teething problems but made us laugh even more!! Every one was so helpful and friendly, we had a great time, thanks for the experience!!"

We thought we would send you some pics of our adventures in Hatty. Please feel free to use any of them on your facebook page or website. Once again thank you for letting us have the pleasure of hiring Hatty and giving us some great memories. Thanks a million Steve and Trace x x

Andy and Deann came to visit us in September 2014 to look at the campervans and make a booking for Peggy, to have her as Andy's daughter's wedding transport and also for a holiday for Andy and Deann afterwards. When they came to pick her up in August 2015 they also had an extra passenger - 10 week old Lillie! A wonderful surprise baby :0) Here are some photos from the wedding

Andy, Julia and Ria loved Tilly so much that they didn't want to give her back! "Photos of Tilly in Porth. We had a brilliant time,Ria loved being in Tilly hence the tears on our last evening in her& Andy "lived the dream" driving along waving at fellow vw enthusiasts.....I feel sure we will be repeating our Tilly experience in the not to distant future.Julia."

Allison and her daughter had a trip to Bath in Tilly "Lovely 4 day break in Tilly. She was immaculate, and a joy to drive. Very professional set up, would happily hire again"

After a brilliant hen-weekend in Peggy in April, Peggy was honoured to be the wedding transport for Holly in August 2015. What a wonderful day! The bride's mum sent us this email "Dear Kate, Thank you for a wonderful personal service for Holly's wedding. Peggy looked lovely (and David too!) Wonderful day, sun shining and lovely Peggy. Waiting for photos, will forward onto you. Will recommend every one to you. Kind regards, Kathryn"

Jay, Kelly, Oscar and Beau had a brilliant time in Peggy. Kelly said "The best hoilday ever in peggy thank u glamcar we loved every min xxx" Jay left this review on our Facebook page "Had an amazing week in Peggy! Kids loved it and haven't stopped talking about it, look forward to our next trip in Peggy!" Oscar coloured a lovely picture for us, and Beau took to the driving seat

The Martin Family said "Well Hatty, we will all miss you! Lots of happy memories have been made exploring Cornwall"

"Hi Kate and David, Thanks again for a lovely few days with Tilly ('Camping Royalty')! I have attached a few photos of Tilly in Bury St Edmunds and at the Cambridge Folk Festival. Best wishes, Simon and Claire Conin"

"Thanks Glamcar for an awesome family weekend at Camp Bestival in Dorset"

Simon and Clare went to the Park District and really enjoyed their weekend in Tilly

John and his daughter Daisy came to collect Tilly for a trip to Mablethorpe, Daisy had been there with school and loved it, she didn't know until they got to us that they were going back there in a campervan, she was very excited and during the weekend produced some lovely artwork - a picture of Dad and Daisy in Tilly with Daisy's bed, Dad's bed and fast wheels! And her dream campervan for when she grows up. Looks like they had a great, fun time on their Tilly adventure!

Derek and Mel said that going to Glastonbury in Peggy was an amazing experience!

Denille, India and David had a great time at Glastonbury in Hatty "Thank you so much for lending us Hatty, we throughly enjoyed her! See attached a few pictures from our few days at Glastonbury. No doubt we'll be in touch in the future and be sure to give you both a great recommendation."

Tilly took Tim, Sharon and their 3 budgies to Matlock in June for a vintage cycle rally, Tim cycled 30 miles in the Derbyshire hills while 2 of the budgies who had previously not got along, fell in love! "Thanks again for such a great weekend. Can't wait to do it all again next year. A massive THANKYOU for being excellent"

June 2015 and Tilly hoped to meet the Queen when she went to Sandringham with Kate and Andy but it wasn't to be, they had a great time anyway! This is what they said -

"Hi David and Kate, We would like to thank you again for hiring Tilly out to us. She was a delight and so well behaved all weekend! We took her to the beautiful Queens Estate in Sandringham and although the weather was awful for two days, it did not stop us road tripping around the coast. We found a gorgeous spot on the campsite and set up our pitch. Unfortunately it was two days before we could get out the table and chairs and barbecue and really enjoy the experience but eventually the sun came out on Monday and we spent a most enjoyable day lazing around, proudly sitting at Tilly's side lazing away the day and soaking up the sunshine. We can't wait to go again some time in the not too distant future"

Dave and Jane had a Tilly trip around Rutland at the end of May 2015

"Hi Kate, We had a fantastic time, thank you. We quickly got used to driving her after a few miles! The thing we hadn’t realised is just how popular you suddenly become once you’re driving a VW camper van. We literally got crowds around her wherever we went along with waves as we drove past people etc. More of a head-turner than a Ferrari any day!Jane has lots of photos that I’m sure she will share with you- I’ve forwarded this email to her and she’ll no doubt respond directly. Of course she wants a camper van now. I said I might get one as a retirement project. Kind regards Dave"

Mel and Paul went to Norfolk in Hatty in May 2015 "We hired a lovely camper called Hattie - "We couldn't fault the company who kept in touch with us leading up to hiring the van and were really flexible with pick up and return times which helped us enjoy the holiday more. Hattie was in brilliant condition and had all we need to enjoy the trip, including a toy van and colouring in for the kids. We really loved the whole experience, especially waving to all the other VW campers we passed. Thanks to all"

Michael and Alison Jones took Hatty to the Scottish Highlands at the end of May 2015 :-

"Just back from our week long Scottish Road Trip in Hatty. We had planned a route from our home in Leicestershire up the West Coast with the intention of doing daily legs of around 100 miles to allow us time to take in the sights. With a top speed of 60 and sitting higher up in our VW Campervan we were able to see more than if we had been in a car, and had the added benefit of being able to stop for a cuppa when the mood and scenery called for it. Pleased to say we took the hills in our stride, with a little help from the gears when necessary, and made it up to Fort William before heading back down through Edinburgh and on home. All in all for our first experience of life on the road in a VW Campervan we had a great time. Here are a few pics of Hatty in the Highlands."

Josephine and Romain from France had a fun trip in Peggy in May 2015 to Yorkshire and the Lake District, the first time Jo had driven a campervan and she was smitten!

"Hello Kate, Here are some pictures of your beautiful van during our great trip! Hope that this will be useful! I had a chance to talk about Peggy and lots of my colleagues may get in contact with you for renting. Kind regards Josephine"

Tilly had a great adventure in Pembrokeshire in May 2015 with Sam and Abi

In April 2015 Sam and family took a trip in Tilly to Rutland Water "Fantastic family weekend in Tilly, kids loved it. Such a great campervan, well equipped, wouldn't have changed a thing!"

Peggy's first trip out for 2015 was in April for Holly's hen weekend and they had a fantastic weekend, and in the summer Peggy is going to be Holly's wedding car, exciting times indeed!

The vans went all over the UK in 2014, from the west coast of Scotland, in and around Whitby, Cornwall, Exmoor, Somerset, Chatsworth and the Peak District, Matlock, Skegness, Glastonbury, Camper Jam, the Lake District, Sherwood Forest, Snowdonia, Anglesey and more. Every time they have come home the hirers have had so many stories to tell and always have a smile on their faces!

They have helped celebrate 40th birthdays, 50th birthdays, 60th birthdays, wedding anniversaries and even taken bridesmaids to a wedding then taken the bride and groom on honeymoon! Most of all they have helped people slow down, relax and unwind, and enjoy this wonderful island of ours.

The VW Campervan Driving Experience

VW campers are iconic vehicles and great fun, as soon as you turn the key the adventure begins. You will be driving something a little different to your normal everyday transport and for the first few miles you will need to concentrate and become accustomed to a more traditional and relaxed style of motoring, not just in the way that you are driving but from the attitude of other drivers as well. Everybody loves VWs, people will always want to talk to you at a petrol station or camp site, and other drivers will wave as they pass on the road.

A large majority of our customers have never before driven a VW camper van so we thought it would be helpful to give you a short introduction as to what you can expect to help you make the right decision for your hard earned holiday.

VW campers are cosy and cute, they are perfect for happy holidays taking it easy and seeing the countryside, they are not a vehicle to get from A to B quickly, more a case of getting from A to B at a leisurely pace. Some of the vans will reach 65 or even 70 mph but they and you will be much more comfortable at 50–55 mph. They like to take it easy going uphill and because they are not very aerodynamic they are quite thirsty at about 25 miles to the gallon. There is some wind and road noise and a few knocks and rattles form all the pots and pans in the cupboards.

They prefer a slow gear change, a reasonable amount of pressure on the foot brake and the clutch, there isn't power steering so a little effort is needed when manoeuvring at slow speed, the windows have to be wound up and down by hand and there is no central locking. In very windy conditions or when a lorry passes on a motorway you will feel the van being buffeted a little. The front wheels are directly below the driver’s seat so initially the steering will feel a little different compared to a car where the wheels are in front of you.

The campers were designed over 50 years ago and didn’t change very much over the years the technology and engineering tolerances are very different to today’s vehicles. Our two Brazilian made vans from 2001 and 2005, have the same floor pan, running gear and steering as the split screen vans designed in the 1950s, they do have a much improved engine, more power and better fuel consumption than the German built vans of the 70s, they are also approximately 25% lighter. A camper is for the journey, the experience, and the adventure and of course the fun. The overall average speed in a camper is only 30 to 35mph and a 200 mile journey is likely to take around 7 hours, so you need to allow plenty of time when planning a route. Whilst the vans were originally designed to carry goods the actual luggage space is reduced by the all the cupboards, the bed, sink, cooker etc. so it’s a good idea to travel as light as possible.

All of our vans are maintained to the highest possible standards and we would be more than happy to answer any questions about the mechanical and safety procedures that we follow and provide any necessary back up documentation. All of our vans drive as well or even slightly better than when they were new, but when they were new the driving experience was more hands on and simpler than it is today. There are tens of thousands of VW campers still on the roads today because they are a way of life to be loved and played with as often as possible.

Above all they are fun, they make everyone smile, and if you decide to hire one you will be hooked!
